I was just smiling and thinking of glaze thickness, timing of time in the bucket, and what is your bisque temperature??? Everyone on this list has a timing system that is just for them. No one on this list can copy my glazes because they would have to come to my studio and dip their pots into my buckets. Then sign the pots after firing with a black sharpie.
To make a cherry red teapot as is illustrated on the last pix of my home page melpots.com you would have to use my kiln and me too.
And, you all know that Toung is planted in my cheek. But really, think of all the variation there is in each of you as you work. And then think of your clay body. There are hundreds of clay recipes out in the big world. What do you use????. Every clay recipe will affect the glaze outcome.
What cone do you use? or better, how far over is cone 6? Is your computer on your kiln in perfect tune?
So much of my teaching for my entire life is about "Intuition" . The theory that you develop faith in yourself. You repeat tasks over and over. Your body goes into perfect harmony with your work.
Make sure that every day you thank the world that gave you the joy of being a fine CRAFTSMAN. I love to think of my great, great grandmother making and apple pie. Skill and timing. She was the master of her kitchen.
