[Clayart] gillespie borate

Hi Carolyn,
Depending on the ratio percentages of materials in your formula,
reformulating with 3134 to replace any of the Borates puts one with
confidence back in the driver's seat.
Because as mined products these Borates are never dependably consistent as
they can and do contain "Tramp" materials and minerals.
It was for this reason why we called Gerstley Borate "Ghastly Borate" back
in the day.

On some glaze recipes with up to 8% of "Borate" I have done a one to one
substitution with 3134 with no discernable ill effect.
For a higher % one must need to get out a sharp pencil and do it the long
way, or rely on a Glaze calculation program.
.
Alisa Clausen, myself, I think Jeff Zamek, as well as several others have
in the past written articles and been involved in Clayart discussions
regarding viable substitutions.

AS I remember we lost Alisa from Clayart when she left in disgust because
the only argument against what she was offering from her extensive
research, was their contention that now "she had created a New
Glaze." How Stupid, Ignorant and Petty to offer that as their only
argument.

I feel a rant coming so will shut my mouth. (Come on Trolls, come to Pa
Pa..........)

P.S. Alisa is in Denmark and well represented on the
Internet.................

Misneach,

David Woof..............................................Please again take
note what Ron said Below regarding Gillespie
Borate.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

I just finished converting a bunch of glazes for a local pottery group
and they all needed some adjustment - mostly because the boron is not
the same.">
