Hi Vince,
Yes I knew it was a common practice way back when I had made provision for
Chuck S from MPLS to take my ashes to glaze several selections from my last
bisque shelf for loved ones to use in everyday utility if as they wished.
No urn for me, give several people special to me in life the remainder of
the ashes to scatter wherever their hearts impelled them. Let the winds
blow me anywhere they will..
So I was curious what the current state of awareness was with Urn business
potentials for potters.
The last Urn I made was a heartbreaker. Parents of a seventeen year old
daughter contacted me because daughter was terminal with cancer. Days to
live and choosing to die at home...
They wanted an 18 inch jar with foliage and a Fairy sculpted on its surface
as an Urn..I took the commission and briefly met the dying daughter. When I
looked into her eyes I saw that she was already gone and so I couldn't get
in touch with her spiritedness as to who she had been. I knew that in
their grief they might initially approve of the Urn but would later realize
that this Fairy had nothing to do with the daughter they remembered. So
add another later grief and disappointment hard to live with or undo. So I
apologized that it wouldn't work out and gave them back their money.
Eventually I let the feelings go and moved on. I have not made Urns since
2002.
Misneach,
David
