Hi Rob,
Laguna has listed a "Danish White" cone Ten for a good number of years. I don't recall ordering or using it. However, Folks used to give me bags and boxes of clay which usually went straight into the Pug Mill to be assimilated........ Seems now as I write, I recall ordering it for a potter in Clarkdale, Az when I was operating a "Ceramics Materials Buying Club" for the Rio Verde area potters some 20 years ago.
At times memory temporarily fails,
but we're reminded by the clay under our nails........
Misneach,
David Woof......................................................

Subject: [Clayart] Clay question: defunct manufacturer
Here's a blast from the past:
I just picked up a truckload of clay from a local potte doing a shed
clean-out (like you do from time to time). I was interested because it was
all Campbell's Ceramics clays, and they've been defunct for a couple
decades.
Most of the clays I know -intimately- well; I was a Campbell's employee and
later a wholesale distributor, and when I closed my supply business and
went into production work, I threw literal tons of three Campbell's bodies.
It was two of these that I bought the lot for - one Cone 6 that's made with
a lot of Lizella and I have a book of glazes made for it that respond in
stunning ways, and one Cone 10 that remains one of the nicest commercial
woodfire bodies I've used (outside of StarWorks wild clays).
The third is their Danish White, which I have -zero- experience with, nor
any real recollection regarding; I don't think many of my customers used
it, so it wasn't a body I ran tests on for the studio.
I don't have a Campbell's catalog around anymore - my last copy was in the
studio and was destroyed this spring when the tree came through the roof,
so I can't look up the specs on it. I THINK it's Cone 10; I seem to
remember it was an imitator of Laguna/Miller's clay by the same name, which
IS Cone 10.
Wet, it's a smooth white body similar to B-mix or a throwing porcelain (but
not the chalk-white of English porcelain).
I'm hoping someone on the list either still has a catalog that lists the
firing range (a very long shot, I know) or has clear memories of using this
clay and can provide a little guidance.
I'll be testing -anyway-, discretion being the better part of valor and
all, but knowing ahead of time the range to test in (or not) is helpful.
