Thank you for what you do - I know it is for the love of doing so and
certainly not for the money involved.  It used to be that a teacher - no
matter their subject or position - could at least make a living wage but
that is long gone now.  Here in NC we lose teachers by the thousands every
year - GA comes over to Charlotte to recruit and a senior teacher can start
in the Atlanta area for more than they make here after many years of
teaching.  And this in what used to be one of the best education systems in
the country - we are now 38 in per student funding and everyday more and
more money is taken from the public school system and goes to charter
schools that are mainly a way to re-segregate the schools.

So it is people like you who pick up the slack and I, for one, thank you
for it.

I come from a completely different background than most here and have
little knowledge or experience in what you do.  I have only had two
experiences - one helping out in a teaching studio in San Diego way back in
the 1960's and for the period of time I ran the Gateway Center for the Arts
in Orange City, Fl.  I enjoyed both very much and, particularly at Gateway,
remember some of the students and how they reacted to the program.  The
studio was small with 2 wheels, therefore not many at a time working.  I
had several classes of home schooled kids - one of the smaller ones always
spent his time making very small figures, animals, people, cars, etc.  He
love it, made dozens and dozens of them. And one, 12 years old, was amazing
- the sculptures he made were amazing for any age.   I also remember one of
the adult ladies - she was always complaining because HER property taxes
were having to fund schools.  I asked her if she had gone to public school
- she said yes but SHE didn't go to school in FL so HER taxes shouldn't
have to pay for the schools.  Sad.  But far too many in this country today
have this kind of thinking.
