[Clayart] Electric Firing

There has been lots of discussion of electric firing in the last couple months. Of course I am glad to see that. Goodness, even Mel has been checking it out.

Way back in 2004, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I gave a presentation at NCECA in Indianapolis titled “Great Results from Electric Kilns”. Recently Roger Cramer asked if I still had that presentation and could I send him a copy. Well I found half of it—it was in 2 parts—some electric fired pots from potters around the world (eye candy to keep the audience from falling asleep) and some charts recommending how to get (or not get) great pots from electric firing. This second part also has some photos illustrating the effect of cooling rate on some of the glazes in MC6Gs.

I have put this second part into Keynote (Mac) and Powerpoint (Windows) presentations and would be happy to let anyone have a copy if you want it. I could also send it as a set of PDFs if you don’t have either of the above software. For those who teach it has some useful information on electric firing.
